Minecraft multiplayer access is controlled through Xbox privacy settings, even if your child plays on a PC, tablet, or console. These settings are managed at xbox.com and work alongside Microsoft Family Safety.
This guide explains which Xbox settings matter, why Mud Club needs them, and how to safely allow access without opening public multiplayer or chat risks.
Why Xbox Settings Affect Minecraft
Minecraft is part of the Xbox ecosystem, regardless of the device your child uses. Xbox privacy settings control whether a child can:
- Join multiplayer games
- Connect to servers
- Play with people outside their friends list
- Use in-game chat
If these settings are restricted, your child may be blocked from joining Mud Club’s private Minecraft server, even if Minecraft itself is installed correctly.
Step 1: Sign in to Xbox.com as a Parent
- Go to https://www.xbox.com
- Click Sign in
- Sign in using the parent or family organizer Microsoft account
- Open the menu → Profile → Privacy settings
⚠️ Changes must be made from the parent account, not the child’s login.
Step 2: Open Your Child’s Xbox Privacy Profile
- Navigate to Privacy & online safety
- Select Xbox privacy
- Choose your child’s profile
You may see preset profiles such as:
- Child
- Teen
- Adult
⚠️ These presets often block multiplayer by default, so manual changes are usually required.
Step 3: Required Xbox Privacy Settings for Mud Club
Under Privacy & online safety, update the following:
Multiplayer & Server Access
Set these to Allow:
- You can join multiplayer games
- You can play with people outside Xbox Live
- You can join cross-network play
These settings allow your child to connect to Mud Club’s private server without enabling public matchmaking.
Friends & Social (Recommended)
- You can add friends → Allow
- Others can see your friends list → Optional
Adding friends is not required for Mud Club, but it can help with smoother connections.
Step 4: Communication Settings
Mud Club sessions may use in-game text or voice chat, depending on the program.
Recommended settings:
- You can communicate outside Xbox Live with voice & text → Allow
- Text chat in multiplayer games → Allow
If you prefer limited communication, Mud Club staff can adapt sessions — just let us know.
Step 5: Save Changes & Restart Minecraft
After updating settings:
- Click Save
- Fully close Minecraft
- Reopen the game and try joining the server again
Changes may not apply until Minecraft is restarted.
Privacy & Safety Reassurance for Families ❤️
We understand how protective these settings are — and that’s a good thing.
- Mud Club uses private, invite-only Minecraft servers
- Sessions are staff-moderated
- No public servers
- No open chat rooms
Allowing these settings does not expose your child to public Xbox multiplayer.
Common Issues & Fixes
“The settings keep reverting”
- Confirm you’re logged in as the family organizer
- Check both xbox.com and family.microsoft.com (they work together)
“I don’t see cross-network play”
- Some accounts hide this setting on mobile — try a desktop browser
“My child still can’t join”
- Screen time limits may be blocking access
- Minecraft may need permission under Apps & Games
