Many families use Microsoft Family Safety (family.microsoft.com) to manage their child’s privacy, screen time, and online permissions. This is a great tool — but it can sometimes block multiplayer access in Minecraft by default.
This guide walks you through what settings matter, why Mud Club needs certain permissions, and how to safely allow access while keeping your child protected.
Why This Matters for Mud Club
Mud Club members connect to a private Minecraft server to participate in:
- Therapist-led gaming sessions
- Social skill development
- Cooperative play with other members
If Microsoft Family Safety restrictions are too strict, Minecraft may prevent your child from:
- Joining multiplayer worlds
- Adding or joining servers
- Communicating with other players
The good news: you can allow just what’s needed — no more, no less.
Step 1: Sign in to Microsoft Family Safety
- Go to https://family.microsoft.com
- Sign in using the parent/guardian Microsoft account
- Select your child’s profile
⚠️ Important: Changes must be made from the parent account, not the child’s account.
Step 2: Allow Multiplayer in Minecraft
Minecraft’s multiplayer permissions are controlled through Xbox privacy settings.
Navigate to:
Family Safety → Child Profile → Settings → Xbox & gaming
Look for Online safety or Privacy & online safety, then review these settings:
Required Settings for Mud Club
Set the following to Allow:
- Join multiplayer games
- Play with people outside Xbox Live
- You can join cross-network play
- Add friends (recommended, but optional)
💡 Mud Club’s server is private and moderated — your child will not be joining public servers.
Step 3: Check Minecraft App Permissions
If your child plays on:
- Windows PC
- Xbox
- Tablet or console
Make sure:
- Minecraft is not blocked by screen time limits during session hours
- The device your child uses is included in allowed devices
You can find this under:
Family Safety → Screen time → Apps & games
Step 4: Communication & Chat Settings
Mud Club sessions rely on in-game communication (text or voice, depending on the session).
Recommended settings:
- Communicate with others online → Allow
- Text chat in multiplayer games → Allow
If voice chat is disabled, your child can still participate — but communication may be limited.

We know privacy matters.
- Mud Club uses private, invite-only servers
- Sessions are moderated by trained staff
